COVID 19 Procedures and Instructions:

‘’The Plan’’ – Part 1, 25 March 2020 (To be Updated Weekly

New Zealand is in unprecedented times, it is normal to feel stressed, anxious and emotional but the staff of Chaffers Marina and our COVID 19 Committee are here to help you through this.

We are now at Alert Level 4. This means New Zealanders not working in essential services must stay at home and stop all interactions with others outside of your household. We know that this is a big ask. Eradicating the disease is vital to protect people’s health and ensure our health system can cope and look after New Zealanders who become sick.

The key task for Chaffers Marina is the prevention of COVID-19 becoming established amongst the Live Aboard population who are all following the self-isolation rules. Self-isolation means STAYING AT HOME. The Government has asked all New Zealanders to stay at home to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

Please note the following:

Q.
What legislation is the Government using?

A.
Health Act 1956, Epidemic Preparedness Act 2006 and the Civil Defence Emergency Act 2002.

Q.
How is it being enforced?

A.
Compliance with the Level 4 lockdown will be enforced by the police and the New Zealand Defence Force.

Q.
What is Chaffers Marina Live Aboard Isolation?

A.
The Marina, as of 11.59pm Wednesday 25 March 2020, will only be able to be accessed by approved live aboards (approved are those registered now in the CML Office). Live Aboards are not allowed interaction with those people outside their household (i.e. cannot visit each other), there must be physical separation (2 metres) but social (i.e. telephone) connection is encouraged.

Q.
What about use of the CML facilities?

A.
CML facilities are only open to approved CML Live Aboards

Q.
Why can I not come to the marina to check my boat?

A.
The risk to others is too great. Even the simple task of touching the gate to get on or off the pier puts other users at risk. Advice was sought this morning (as per earlier email today), advice is that all travel will be limited to essential travel only.

Q.
I am a Live Aboard, what about my onboard holding tank?

A.
A vessel may leave its berth to use the onshore sewage pump facility (at the fuel berth), use of this facility will require adhering to the stringent personal hygiene and physical separation rules

Q.
I am planning on leaving the marina

A.

We have been in contact with several vessel owners who wish to depart at the next weather window. To be clear, once we reach Level 4 strict rules around what is essential travel come into force. We cannot comment on how the authorities will manage this. Once we reach Level 4, no vessels may enter the marina. Please contact the General Manager (027 418 7825) if you are intending to depart.

Q.
What about visitors/shared custody?

A.
There are to be no visitors. In a shared custody situation, the child must reside with one family in isolation
